Lip Blush Pre-Appointment Advice and Tips

  • The lips are a delicate area and we will be administering a tattoo. While swelling is often very mild, take this into consideration for your plans for the next 1-2 days.

  • Avoid caffeine before your appointment - caffeine is known to increase bleeding and can affect your overall retention (colour may not take as well when too much bleeding is present)

  • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen (neurofen etc) or anti-inflammatory medication 2 days before your appointment. These medications can increase the chances of bleeding. Do not discontinue any medication without consulting your health care professional prior.

  • Do not consume alcohol 24h prior to your procedure. Again, this can increase bleeding which can affect your overall healed results.

  • Retinol, Glycolic Acids, AHA and active ingredients formulated for the skin should be avoided at least 1 week prior to your procedure and 1 week after. For clients with more sensitive skin, consider 2 weeks before and after.

  • Avoid professional chemical close to the treated area peels 4 weeks before and after the treatment.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, it is advised you visit your pharmacist or health care provider to obtain anti-viral medication. Procedures and scenarios which cause trauma to the lips can cause cold sore outbreaks. Examples include chemical peels, sunburn, fillers, lip blush tattoo and even stress or low immune system. Anti-viral cold sore medication is known to greatly reduce the risk of cold sore outbreaks. Please seek advice of your health care professional before taking any medication.

  • Laser hair removal should be completed no less than 2 weeks prior to your lip blush procedure and no sooner than 2 weeks after. This goes the same for waxing, bleaching and electrolysis.

  • Lip filler should be at least 4 weeks old before undergoing your lip blush procedure. You can receive lip filler at least 2 weeks after your lip tattoo procedure.

  • Lip blush tattoo cannot lighten dark lip tissue. We can counteract the darker tones in order to create a more balanced and even-toned look, however, lightening is impossible with all PMU procedures.

  • Keep your lips hydrated, smooth and consider exfoliating your lips a few days before your lip blush appointment. Smooth and soft lips take and hold colour, ultimately providing you with perfect results. Dry patches often result in the pigment not entering the skin efficiently.

  • Save photos of your favourite lip colours or bring in your favourite lip shade. We LOVE visual representations on what your goals and desires are, so the more you can show us, the better!

  • Permanent makeup is an investment. While touch-ups are optional, it is wise to understand that Touch-Up is considered the 'perfecting appointment'. At your touch up, we revisit your lips 6 weeks after your initial appointment. Here we make slight adjustments where necessary. Perhaps some areas need some mild fine-tuning or you wish for a slight colour adjustment - Touch-Up appointments are created specifically for this.
